Today, Southern Hills Forest Products LLC, is an organization with the capability and equipment that businesses and homeowners have come to rely on.

Firewood production starts in the woods, where we source the raw materials for manufacturing. We work with local Central New York families, landowners, businesses, farmers, and loggers to purchase clean, quality logs of desired species for our operation. Desirable species of hardwood include Maple, Cherry, Hickory, Ash, and Oak, with smaller quantities of others mixed in (e.g.- Beech, Ironwood, Hop-Hornbeam, Locust, and Yellow Birch). From there, it is trucked in log form, via contracts with local Central New York trucking companies, as well as with our own log truck. We sort the logs on the landing by size, quality, and cleanliness. Dirty logs are debarked.
To process the logs into firewood, we load whole logs onto the state-of-the-art Bell’s 4000 Firewood Processor featuring a 44-inch circular saw. Rounds are made into splits by 4,8, and 12-way wedges. Wood is then conveyed from the processor into a tumbler, which separates any fines, splinters, loose debris, and loose bark. Splits are then conveyed directly on to a delivery truck in the case of green (unseasoned wood) or separated into a stack to be seasoned for several months to be made ready for dry, seasoned wood for the fall.
