A face cord of wood includes approximately 200-275 pieces of split firewood.
What is seasoned wood?
"Seasoned wood" refers to wood that is dried to remove moisture. Seasoned wood should not exceed 20% moisture. Southern Hills Firewood seasoned wood is always below 20% moisture.
What is green wood?
Green wood, also known as unseasoned wood, means that it’s right off the stump with full moisture content (about 40-60%). It’s purchased for self-seasoning and is more cost effective.
What happens if you burn unseasoned wood?
If you burn unseasoned or green wood, it is significantly inefficient. Much more fuel will be used for the same amount of heat. The buildup of creosote in the chimney goes up exponentially. This dangerous creosote buildup causes chimney fires.
What is Kiln Dried Firewood?
Kiln dried firewood refers to firewood where moisture is removed through the use of a kiln. A kiln is a type of oven that uses temperatures sufficient for chemical changes. The kiln bakes the firewood, removing moisture in the process. Removing moisture from firewood with a kiln is much faster than naturally allowing firewood to dry for the purposes of removing moisture.
